Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this GE Appliances 15,000 BTU black, low profile, ductless RV air conditioner system with heat pump. Now, this low profile RV air conditioner is designed to give you about an additional three inches of clearance in roof height. And at 15,000 BTUs, this is going to give you about 10 to 12% more cooling power, which is going to be helpful in larger RVs, think like about 30 feet and longer, especially if they have slide outs, and especially if you're in those hot, humid climates where that extra capacity is going to help keep your RV more comfortable. Now, this unit does use the more energy efficient R32 refrigerant, which meets the 2025 EPA regulations.
So because of that, this unit will not be backwards compatible with any AC system or component from 2024 and earlier. This is a bolt-on installation and you are going to get the hardware that you need with this kit to get this installed in place. And just going over some measurements here. Looking at the length, from back to front, we're sitting right about 40 inches long. The width is about 30 inches.
And again, this is a low profile unit, so the overall height is gonna be sitting right at about 11 inches. This weighs about 88 pounds. So this is going to run quietly. The motor has sound-dampening grommets to help reduce that annoying humming. And this is gonna be a relatively easy swap for most RVs because this is going to seamlessly install over your roof's pre-existing roof vent opening.
And probably the most difficult thing you're gonna have with installing this is getting this AC up on the roof and your older AC down. But overall, it's gonna be a pretty simple install. This is built tough for the road. This is built with high grade materials that are gonna withstand extreme UV rays and that constant vibration. (hand tapping) The black, hard automotive grade polymer shroud is gonna do a good job of protecting those internal components from water, dirt, and debris.
(hand knocking) And this is indeed a really hard, rigid shroud. So I think it's gonna do a really good job of holding up for you. And it has a really nice glossy look that is, I think, really going to enhance its look on the roof of your RV or camper. Now, this does include the wiring harness. You're just gonna pull those wires out from underneath and then through your roof opening. And the shroud can be removed if you ever need to do any cleaning or maintenance or anything like that. It'll remove when you remove the screws and it'll be easy to replace so you can get on down the road. Now, this unit is built with a heat pump, which is an added bonus. That's gonna help keep your coach warm on those chilly mornings. This is going to efficiently use the warmth in the air to warm up your coach on days that are as cold as 25 degrees Fahrenheit. And at 35 degrees Fahrenheit, this can extend your propane supply from anywhere from 19 to 38% by reducing the need for you to run your furnace. And when the conditions do get too cold for the heat pump to work efficiently, then it's gonna automatically switch over to your furnace. And this does also feature an auto defrost cycle to help prevent ice build-up on the heat exchanger. Now, let me give you a closer view here on this side of the table just to briefly go over the components that you're going to get with this kit. Of course, you are going to get this air distribution box that is designed for your ductless system. If you don't have any ducts in your RV, the air's just going to come out of this air distribution box only. Of course, this is also built to handle road vibrations and everyday RV life. And then moving over, you are going to get this single zone thermostat that includes these easy to use buttons, and it has a large display, it's going to be backlit. And this is going to be an easy install as well. It does come with the screws that you're going to need to get this installed into place. And then you're also going to get this fireproof control board. This is basically the brains of the operation. This manages how your AC unit operates. Then you'll get the associated hardware with that as well so you can get that mounted into place. And then I mentioned the bolts to get the AC mounted into place. So let me go over some measurements here for you. Let's go back to the air distribution box. When we're talking about the length, about 21 inches, and that's gonna be the same for the width as well. And then this is going to be sticking down from your ceiling about two to two and a half inches or so. So it's not gonna take up a whole lot of head space in your unit. And in regards to the thermostat, it's going to be three and a half inches tall and wide, and about an inch thick. And then back to our control box, about seven and a half inches long, and six and seven-eighths inches wide, and about two and three-eights inches thick. So you're gonna get all of this from a name that you know and trust, GE Appliances, of course. They're well known for residential appliances. So that same reliability and that same trust is gonna be brought over to this air conditioning unit for your RV. Absolutely love my new A/C. Just a heads up, if replacing a Coleman Mach, you will need to supply 12 volts to the main board at the ceiling. Coleman Mach used 12 volts at the thermostat not in the ceiling unit. This unit sends the 12 volts to the thermostat from the board at the unit itself.
The new G.E. low profile AC unit is exactly what I wanted and its performance exceeds my exceptions. The actual install was very simple and all the pieces fit together as they should.
However, the wiring directions are very poor and need to be improved.
I changed out the original Coleman Mach 13.5K with this new G.E. and working through the wiring change over was a real challenge. Because of the way Northwood originally wired my Arcticfox fifth wheel there was no positive 12v feed at the ceiling unit. I finally figured out a way to run a positive line and then everything worked as designed.
The real trick was figuring out the two furnace trigger wires. I had to re-dedicate two of the wires at the ceiling unit that ran to the original thermostat as the two trigger wires. That and running a positive lead resolved the installation.
This new G.E. low profile 15K AC definitely produces much more air flow and is certainly much quieter.
I'm very pleased with my chose to increase the main unit as to installing a second unit in the bedroom.
